Art Analysis

 My Thought Process

I enjoy geometric shapes, so I decided to look for an art sculpture that had this. I also love animals, so what better to look for than a geometric animal sculpture for this assignment? Nature has always had a way of pulling me in and captivating me. Geometric shapes and sculptures and such have also had this effect on me a few times. I think the two can blend together very well and effortlessly.

The Art Piece

For this sculpture, I love that it has straight lines and sharp angles. I also love that it's all mirrors. Another thing I particularly enjoy about this is that it has two pieces to the work. Not only is it the mirrored wolf, but also a rhinoceros head.

This is WOLF by Arron Gregory

Looking Deeper

When I first saw this, the wolf immediately caught my eye. They're my favorite animal. The mirrors just added to my curiosity. I think the background matches the art very very well. A simple, plain background so the mirrors are really only reflecting whites and blacks. The placement and size of the mirrors feel very meticulously placed, along with the spots on the wall. The way the artist portrayed the wolf's body language makes it almost seem like the wolf is curious.  I think having emotion within your sculptures is important and I love the way that it feels like it was added to this.

  1. I’m someone who prefers paintings over any type of art, but I love this one ! I think since it’s an animal helps a lot too. I wonder how long it took to compete these. I love how each side you’d look at you’ll see sharp edges and even though it’s all one color, it will reflect light which will turn it all different colors.

  2. Mercedes; I enjoyed the wolf, especially since it's mirrored. I usually prefer sculptures over paintings because of the ability to really see and feel texture. The glass work on this is awesome, I wonder what's underneath and how many hours the artist put into this one piece? Each piece is a different size and it all lines up together. Wonderful sculpture and thank you for sharing.
